Braves Win, Not So Chipper Though

There is nothing like going to the Great American Ballpark to administer a Great American butt-whuppin to the hapless Reds. Take that you communists! In your face Trotsky!! Go America!!! Er, I mean, the Braves won.

Chipper Jones looked as comfortable at the plate as he had in a long, long while, so of course he hurts himself again. The shoulder injury doesn’t sound too serious – there probably won’t be a DL stint – but we all know how injuries hamper the fragile Mr. C. Jones. Don’t expect any big numbers out of him anytime soon.

The two people rumored to be headed to Texas (Go America!!!!), Marcus Giles and Jorge Sosa, showed again why that would have been a terrible idea. Giles just keeps on hitting – his average is now above .300 after going 14-25 (.560) over the last six games. On the mound, Sosa pitched the way Sosa does – nothing overpowering, plenty of men on base, but not too many of them crossing the plate.

Tonight the two teams field essentially the same pitcher – two unspectacular lefties with ERAs in the mid-4s who give up a lot of home runs. Claussen strikes out more batters, Ramirez gives up fewer hits.

On another note entirely, why do the “Reds” play in the Great American Ballpark? Where have you gone, Joe McCarthy?

  • Cool, a game recap face-off!

  • My observation, in comparing the dueling recaps, is that Sam’s gives the score of the game. And right at the top, so I didn’t have to read the whole post if I didn’t want to do so.

Mike’s is more of a commentary really. And I like the emotional outburst of Brave-iosity, but is red-baiting really the thing we need? Can’t we all just get along?

  • Do you think the Communists would be interested in Kolb?

  • What’s not to like? He possesses a great deal of suckiness, and contributes it according to his ability…
