Hang on to your hats folks. This ride is either about to get real exciting. Today the Braves sit in 3rd place. One-half game back of Philly, 3.5 back of the Mets and 4 ahead of Miami. But by Monday, one week prior to the Popularity Contest Break, we will see a whole new landscape in the NL East.
The Braves visit the Marlins for 3 scheduled games starting today. Of course, being summer in south Florida, odds are one will get rained out. Meanwhile, the Phillies host the Mets for 4 games, starting with the double-header today. If the Braves take care of business- and I believe they will- against a Marlins team who have dropped 2 of 3 to both Minnesota and Pittsburgh in the past week, then by Monday this race will be tighter than ever. If we fail, then we face the reality of a very long climb to get back in the race in the second half.
Me? I like the new-look line-ups with Willie Harris and Escobar setting up Chipper for rbis. I want to see O-fer Jones either on the bench or batting 7th, so as not to cost us any more opportunites. But I’m thinking we’re coming out of the Nats series feeling really good. Lets see the Braves build on it now.
